"Education is like a weapon. If properly utilised, it brings happiness and benefit to the individual and the whole society in which he or she lives... This is the ultimate aim of education."

His Holiness the Dalai Lama

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." In the early 1960s, our founders took that first step by establishing a kindergarten for children. Over the years, that small beginning has flourished.

School System:

At Tibetan Homes Foundation (THF), we provide a holistic education system that integrates traditional Tibetan education as its foundation, complemented by modern academic approaches. Currently, THF manages four schools: a senior secondary school in Mussoorie, a secondary school in Rajpur, and two middle schools located in Rishikesh (GohriMafi) and Dekyiling. Each school also includes a pre-primary section. Collectively, these institutions are known as Tibetan Homes Foundation.

In 1979, the school education was upgraded to the Primary level and in July 1982, Class V was introduced. The education system provision was changed to the main school with classes till grade V when the new academic session starts in June 1983.  The students get their primary education in Tibetan Homes Foundation and join the Central School for Tibetans only from class VI. Later on, the classes were upgraded till grade 8, then to grade 10 and grade 12.

In 1990, Tibetan Homes School in Mussoorie was upgraded to offer classes up to grade XII, while Tibetan Homes School in Rajpur was upgraded to grade X in the later years. Both schools are now affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Moreover, all our four schools adhere to the Basic Education Policy and the Central Board of Secondary Education curriculum. The school follows National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks for secondary and senior secondary levels. At the pre-primary and primary levels, the schools follow the Basic Education Policy (BEP) for Tibetans in exile, utilizing the curriculum and textbooks developed by the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamsala.

Our top priority is to provide quality education. The school offers a diverse curriculum with courses in science, commerce, and humanities, allowing students to choose career-oriented subjects after completing class X based on their interests. To ensure comprehensive assessment, terminal examinations are conducted throughout the year. The academic session runs from March to December, with a short summer break in June. For students preparing for board exams, additional coaching is provided during the winter break in January, offering them extra support.

Special Classes:

At the start of each academic year, Tibetan Homes Foundation welcomes children from the Trans-Himalayan region, particularly from remote border areas such as Nepal, Ladakh, Lahaul, Spiti, Mon Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, and Kinnaur. Many of these children are overage and academically behind. To support their integration, special classes with intensive coaching are provided, helping them reach the academic standards of their mainstream grade levels.

Career Resource Centre:

In today's world, opportunities and information are vast, and it is crucial to guide children as they grow, helping them become aware of the possibilities around them. For Tibetan children, this guidance is particularly important. At our schools, this role is fulfilled by the Career Resource Centre (CRC), led by Career Counselors at Mussoorie and Rajpur School.

The Career Resource Centre plays a important role in assisting students explore and choose their future careers. Starting from grade VIII, students are provided with information about available opportunities, and their individual interests are carefully assessed. In addition to guiding school students, the Career Resource Centre also supports them with college admissions, ensuring they are well-prepared for their educational journey outside the environment of Tibetan Homes Foundation.
