Elderly Care Program

It is true that in times of political upheaval it is the elder people who are subjected to maximu suffering. Similar was the fate of Tibetan refugees. The people after escaping their homeland worked at road construction sites and suffered many hardship on others they had horse people worked at doing manual labour and at the age of dependability on others they had no one to fall on.

Aware of all this THF made a small beginning in the early seventies for the old people who were living under difficult circumstances. Since then we have come a long way.

The Tibetan Homes Foundation extends assistance to elderlies in two categories:

  • 1. The ones who have no source of income and no one to look after are admitted into the old age home where all round care is given.
  • 2. The ones living in various Tibetan refugee community centres but having no source of income are given monthly stipends for their daily needs.

All round care is given to the inmates of these homes by our dedicated staff. Besides the elderlies in our Gaphelling old age homes we also assist old people residing in various Tibetan communities in India. The elderly community plays a vital role by actively participating in various festivals and religious occasions thus bringing completeness in our own way of life.

Old People's Routine

At Tibetan Homes Foundation, as caregivers, we are mindful of creating a daily routine that keeps our elderly residents engaged and content. However, we also recognize that they prefer a relaxed, unstructured lifestyle. Unlike strict schedules, the elderlies here are free to live at their own pace, doing what they wish when they wish. Tibetan culture, being deeply spiritual, encourages a focus on prayer and reflection in one's later years, and many of our elderly residents dedicate much of their time to spiritual activities.

Normally, after breakfast, our elders love to spend their time walking, visiting the market, or sharing stories and experiences with fellow residents. During the hot summer months, the hall in the basement becomes a cool and comfortable place for our elders. This heartwarming space was made possible through the kind financial support of the Tibet Relief Fund, United Kingdom. With their life experiences, the elders often engage in conversations and storytelling of their life in Tibet, making this space a hub of connection and cherished memories.

Out Reach Program for Elders

There are destitute elders in the Tibetan diaspora who are financial poor because they have no one to support them in the evening of their lives and there are elders whose children are not able to take care of their aged parent on account of their own economic condition or health reasons. There are also some families who face economic hardship of such elders and families, THF renders some assistance.
