Dispensary - A Health Care Facility
The Tibetan Homes Foundation schools are equipped with a primary health center. This facility is staffed by a team of nurses, a certified residential Dentist, a dental therapist, and health workers, all operating under the supervision of a head nurse. For major illnesses and ailments, patients are referred to hospitals in Mussoorie or nearby Dehradun and sometimes, to New Delhi.
The health center provides medical care to students, staff, and elderly residents, while also extending services to the local community. Local residents receive checkups and dental treatments at a minimal fee. The most common health issues include viral and seasonal diseases, hypertension, Diabetes and Gastritis. To address skin problems and gastroenteritis, health talks are regularly held for students, caregivers, and patients, emphasizing the importance of personal hygiene.
The health care needs of the children are overseen by a skilled and experienced team of nurses. A significant portion of the children’s maintenance expenses is allocated to this health section. The center features 35-40 inpatient beds, an outpatient department, a pharmacy, X-ray services, a laboratory, and a dental clinic.
Dental Care:
The dental clinic at the Tibetan Homes Foundation attends to the dental needs of students, staff, and the elderly. Significant improvements have been made to the dental clinics in Mussoorie and Rajpur, thanks to grants from our partners, “Dentist Du Monde, Belgium”, “Apollin 45, France”, “Tibet Freunde, Switzerland”, and “MOST Pro-Tibet, Czech Republic”. Additional support has come from friends in Europe and the United States.
The clinic provides routine dental checkups for all students and educates both staff and students on dental health. An alumnus residential Dentist looks after the Dental Clinic at Mussoorie. The local Tibetan and Indian communities also benefit from the clinic, receiving dental services at nominal rates.
Health Center Operations:
With many children and elderly under its care, the health center plays a critical role in maintaining their well-being. Each individual is issued a personal health card, which is updated at every visit to the center, ensuring accurate records are maintained. Programs include cleanliness initiatives, disease awareness talks, special health checkups, and first aid training for foster parents. The center also collaborates with government health agencies to ensure compliance and support.
