Tibetan Homes School, Rajpur which is situated in between Dehradun and Mussoorie is a branch school under the administration of Tibetan Homes Foundation, Mussoorie, which is a registered non -profit charitable organization, established in the year 1963 by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama for the care of the orphan , semi orphan and destitute Tibetan refugee children in exile.
The mission of the organization is to impart the best possible modern education along with a deep intimate understanding of rich cultural and heritage of Tibet.
The mission also aims for holistic development of each individual child to his or her fullest potential and to bring out self-reliant and responsible young boys and girls to become a contributing members of our society in particular and the world at large. THF is an integrated community where the children live in different homes as brother and sisters and attend the same school.
Tibetan Homes Foundation branch at Rajpur began as a small school in the year 1977 and it was initially called as ‘IM-School’ as SOIR-IM Sweden, spon¬sored the seed money.
It began in the form of a ‘kindergarten day school’ for about 25 children with a small dispensary especially meant for the Tibetan refugees settled at Rajpur. The school has gradually grown over the last four decades with increasing number of children, hostel facilities and classes. Along with the school, other facilities also developed in Rajpur. A project of a new ‘SOS – village’ comprising of 14 family homes, kindergarten, dispensary, community house and a recreation room was inaugurated on 4th of October,1999. The children at the village for their educational needs attend the existing Tibetan Homes School in Rajpur, which is a 10 minutes’ walk from the village.
The major expansion of the school was completed in the year 2000 with the total support from SOS Kinderdorf International. At present, the school is a residential higher secondary school with affiliation to the Central Board of Secondary Education in New Delhi.
Education: Imparting education is the foremost mission of Tibetan Homes Foundation as a whole. THF Rajpur comprises of a Montessori section where in¬fants in the age group 3 to 6 are given admission followed by main school with classes from 1 to 10. Students after completing their high school are transferred to Tibetan Homes Foundation Mussoorie for their senior school grade education.
Family Homes/ Hostel: Hostel ‘A and B’are the two hostels at THF Rajpur where senior students stay. Each hostel accommodates 100 to 110 students. There are 14-SOS homes in THF Rajpur with each SOS having 12 to 14 children looked after by a foster mother.
Dispensary: Tibetan Homes Foundation, Rajpur has one small dispensary with three paramedical staff. These nurses take care of overall health and hygiene of children, staff and elderlies under our care.
Rajpur is located at a distance of 8 km from the main city of Dehradun. One can take a taxi or local bus to reach Rajpur after reaching Dehradun. Dehradun is at an altitude of 2,200 feet above sea level.
