Tibetan Homes Foundation (THF) is a charitable institute dedicated to working for the care of orphans, semi orphan, and destitute Tibetan refugee children. The Foundation is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 (Punjab Amendment) Act in the year 1963.
  Nestled in the serene and profusely wooded valley of Mussoorie – one of the most sought after summer vacation destinations of India. THF is one of the several institutions established in exile by His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama to provide home-like care, education and an environment that encourages learning of Tibetan language and unique cultural values to Tibetan refugee children. The system of children’s upbringing and care are broadly modeled on the Four Basic Principles of SOS Children’s Village ethos of having a Mother, Brothers and Sisters, The House and , The Village where children share a bonding sense of family ambience ensuring congenial environment for sustenance and promotion of the Tibetan language and the unique cultural values and traditions. 
  The Foundation initially set up accordingly to the vision and guidance of His Holiness by Mrs. Rinchen Dolma Taring, the first General Secretary of THF, with three Homes and seventy five orphaned and destitute Tibetan refugee children has grown into a institution with over 2000 orphan, semi-orphan, destitute children living in 58 Homes and three hostels and receiving education in the main residential school at Mussoorie and two branches located at Rajpur and near Rishikesh. Alongside, THF also runs two Homes for caring destitute elderly persons providing food, residence, and medi-care who have no family to support them. THF runs a residential facility for retired THF staff and a vocational training center.
