Hermann Gmeiner Tibetan Boarding Primary School and Training Centre, Rishikesh

In the last fifty years, Tibetan Homes Foundation continues to pursue the primary mission of providing a family home to those needy Tibetan refugee children who remain deprived of a natural upbringing by their biological parents. It works on the basic principles of creating an environment of a natural upbringing for such children with home parents, brothers, and sisters and the opportunity of shaping their future with ancillary facility such as School and Vocational Training Centre. Today THF has a total of over 2400 children under its care.

This new project is a step further in meeting the above objective and has helped in giving the much needed breathing space in Mussoorie. Children here have moved in from the overcrowded homes at Mussoorie and Rajpur.

Another important objective met by this project has been the actualizing a special centre towards Human Resource Development which is the backbone of any organization’s success. The new Mother and staff training centre with its extensive facility would greatly aid in training and organizing refreshers or orientation courses for Mothers and co-workers.

Location and Campus:

The Hermann Gmeiner Tibetan Homes School and SOS Mother and staff training centre is located at village Gohri Mafi in the outskirts of Rishikesh, the spiritual destination of India. The campus is surrounded by lush green agricultural land and the gateway to the village is through the forests of Rajaji National Park. The entire 25 acre campus is divided in two parts by a kuttcha path leading to the village and the holy river Ganga is just 600 metres away.

The construction work of this project was started in January 2009. The entire project has been planned in two phases of which Phase I has been almost completed with the major buildings functional. The phase I comprises of Ten residential family homes. School block, Senior co-workers house,Training block, Administrative block, 3 blocks of Junior Co-workers house, 2 blocks of Aunt houses and a Medical Block. The school is located at a village called “Gohri Mafi” in Rishikesh and school aims to provide boarding school for our primary school children and also aims to be a training centre. The project became necessary to decongest the overcrowding pressure at the existing family homes and school in Mussoorie.
