Hermann Gmeiner Tibetan Homes School

The second priority of THF is to provide the best possible means of a good education to children under our care so that these children grow up as self reliant and contributing members of our community at large.

For the attainment of the above mission, the Hermann Gmeiner Tibetan homes school which in early 1960’s began with the kindergarten school is now the centre for school level education for all the children under THF at Mussoorie. The school is a full fledged senior secondary school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and for better management is divided into three sections - the Montessori, Junior and the Senior section with their respective Headmasters. The school session for the children begins from early March to December. Apart from academics, various other activities of games and extra co-curricular activities are held throughout the year.  

Kindergarten School - The ladder of education for the children begins from the kindergarten section wherein the children play and learn. The section consists of three stages. Of the children in the campus the little ones are the most lovable ones making all kinds of noises and keeping the surrounding alive. You will always catch the children shouting or singing nursery rhymes at the school. Understanding the importance of a good foundation for the children to grow the Montessori system of education gives a true platform for the children to develop and also helps them see education as a fun process. School is now a place where children crave to go.

Junior Section - The second section of the school education is the Junior section. In this section classes from grade I to VI are included. In this section our school follows the Tibetanization program implemented by the Department of Education ( Tibetan Government in exile ), Dharamsala. This program gives priority to our Mother Tongue and makes it necessary for all classes from grade I - V to follow this program. Under this program all subjects in the above classes are taught in Tibetan language thus highlighting the importance of the Tibetan language. English is taught as a separate subject in these classes. This section also boasts of the naughtiest group of children and teachers are in love and fear of this group of children.

Senior Section - Finally it is the senior school section comprising from grade VII to XII. At the senior secondary school, all three streams of studies – Humanities, Commerce and Science are available for the children. The children after completing their school level studies have to go into the Indian Universities for higher studies and therefore it is necessary for us to follow the school education pattern present in India.
