New Arrival from Tibet in 1960's

THF began in 1963 with the purpose of providing a life to those Tibetan children who had fled with their parents from Tibet seeking refuge in India. Most of the children admitted into THF then had lost their parents and were orphans and semi-orphans. Thereafter over the two decades most of the children admitted into THF were from poor families from various Tibetan settlements here in India. Then came the Nineties and with the never ending tyranny of the Chinese government in Tibet, Tibetans were forced to leave their homeland. Hundreds of youth and children have since then crossed the high Snow Clad Himalayan mountains and come over the borders into India. Majority of people crossing the borders are children who have been sent by their parents in hope of a better life and education in India under the blessing of His Holiness The Dalai Lama.

Following the same urge and understanding the emergency crisis of the Tibetan children in general, hundreds of the Newly Arrived Children from Tibet have been admitted into THF. Today over 80% of children under THF are from this group.

The courage of the children’s parents in Tibet is to be admired and appreciated for sending their children to India. The making of a decision to send their children to India means – risking the life of their child crossing the borders, sensing the danger 

of never seeing their child again and more so sending them away at a tender age when parents love and care is needed most for the child. It has been the courage of these parents that would demarcate a brighter future for the next generation of Tibetan people and in whole for our country Tibet. The parents in Tibet have sacrificed their own happiness for the future of their children, to them the future life of their child is more important than anything else. With such hope the parents sacrifice their personal love for the child and here at THF it is of utmost importance for us to make these future citizens of Tibet, educated and contributing members of the society.  

Recent New arrivals from Tibet

  At THF the doors for these children are open throughout the year and all round special care is provided for the children. Children under this group vary in ages from 6 to 12, some with little educational background yet some are there who have never been to a school. It is here that as soon as the children arrive we send them into our Special Classes, where the children are kept for over a year. In these classes each individual child is studied carefully in terms of their academic capabilities and intelligence after which according to their age and aptitude they are put into the regular school classes. The joy of seeing these children grow is immense.
